My cooktop worked for awhile but stopped after a couple of months. The company sent me a replacement stove. So just wanted to say that the stove is a good one but if you have any problem you can be certain that it will be taken care of by the company , and you will be treated very well. Thank you Thermomate!
We had an unfortunate accident with our old/traditional all-electric cooktop where a stone mortar was dropped and smashed the glass. So... in the market for a new cooktop. We've had a plug-in induction cooktop for years and loved it and decided to make the change to upgrade to an all-electric induction cooktop. Lowes and other places had them for $2,200+ with delivery 2+ months out. We took a chance on this unit for about $460 and boy are we glad we did. The unit dropped into the hole we had in our granite cooktop, wired into the electric box we used for our old traditional cooktop, and was installed in under an hour. The product works absolutely great. We bought induction friendly pots and pans (that almost cost the same as the cooktop) and they do a perfect job. We also bought some induction-friendly cooking mats. Those keep the cooking surface from getting scratches. Together, we've found the whole cooking process is very easy and this product is a champ. With that said, warranty information on this product is hard to find. The company is small and support seems like it would be low (though we have not needed any support). We figure, for $480, if we get 2 years out of it and need to buy a new one then we will still come out ahead vs a "name brand". However, we doubt we will have any problems with it as it seems the product is well built.
The provided instructions are typical translated-from-another-language-not-much-help that accompany so many products theses days. One picture provided indicating that screws are used with the supplied brackets to hold the unit in place. It's not at all clear where these screws are supposed to actually go in the bottom of the unit, but what is clear is that the provided wood screws (in picture with bracket) aren't going into the sheet metal of the cooktop. I went to the hardware store and bought 6/32 machine screws of various lengths and those worked (shown next to the wood screws on the instruction picture for comparison). The length you'll need will vary depending on your countertop thickness and configuration. Be careful to check the length--I used a toothpick-- because you can reach the glass cooktop; so if your screw is too long and you crank it down you could break the glass surface.Once I sorted that out it installed fine and works well. All induction cooktops make clicking noises as the elements cycle on and off--that's not unique to this one. Some pans will make a buzzing sound too-- par for the course. This is less powerful than a JennAir it replaced so boiling water tskes a little more time (still way faster than gas or traditional electric), but the Jenn Air is $2500 and ours that came with our house had to be repaired three times in the last three years. So far I'm happy with this, and greatly preferred the arrangement of the elements compared to the JennAir. Hopefully it lasts longer.
UPDATEWell, I'm updating my review because fortunately this company has responded well to my situation. They sent me a completely new stove! Great! It has worked flawlessly the last 2 days, so I guess they and I got unlucky with the first one which was behaving strangely from the beginning. Nonetheless, they had supported me all the way, and that says a lot about at company and I hope it gives confidence to other costumers. I'm very happy. This stove is great and I like that it is compact having 5 burners and all touching sensors controls. It looks amazing at my kitchen.------------------------------UPDATECustomer service has contacted me and they are trying to solve the situation.------------------------------After around 15 minutes of use, the upper left burner sensor control gets stuck at level 2. The rest of the burners work while you won't turn them off, otherwise they won't turn back on.The behavior persists even if the stove is completely turn off and back on.To get the stove to work again, I have to disconnect it from the wall plug and connect it again, until a few minutes of cooking that the weird behavior arise again. After a week of trying to contact, one month ago Thermomate reply to me and sent me a new motherboard, which I did appreciate since I know that it's the main part of the whole stove basically. As an experience engineer it was not complicated to replaced it and apparently the stove started to work fine but, sadly, it didn't resolve the issue, the problem is not gone and it behaves exactly as before.Although I really like the stove and its format, unfortunately, a situation like this could be a really bad indication of quality and thus deserves a bad review.I'm not willing to keep this monthly trial and error to try to fix it and after replacing a motherboard it could be anything. Now it seems that it will be better to through this to the garbage and find another solution to my stove situation. So be aware that the odds could be against you and get an erratic dysfunctional product as it happened to me.
Very compact and efficient at bring the food to temperature. It has a feature to detect of the pot/pan being use is metallic or not. In the case that the pot/pan not compatible, it will stop and let you know. It is quite compact. I was able to have a full drawer right underneath the stove. The only thing to note is the control can be confusing to use so read the instructions manual for the different functionality/notation.
Just moved into my new house with an electric stove which I do not like. It will take forever to heat my coffee. If I had to leave early and do chores in the morning then my coffee would be lukewarm. It is too slow. My older house has an induction stove, and I like really like it. This induction stove by Thermomate does the trick, and the water for my coffee new gets hot fast. I love the timer because I can set the timer, and it will turn off without hot water not boiling over. I did make a mistake one time by turning on the wrong burner and leaving the room. A few minutes later, the stove turn off by itself. That is a nice feature. All of the burns work. I am taking away a star because this stovetop is loud. Guess Thermomate wants to save money on fans. I can hear this stove in the adjacent room. Because of the noise, my wife knows when I am up and making coffee. The good news is she does not have to listen to the noise for too long because my coffee gets hot in no time. I love my nice hot coffee.
Easy to wipe off spills while your cooking. I'm loving the temperature control. The top only gets hot from the pan. After heating water in my kettle, turned it off, remove from cooktop and was able to touch the stove it was hot from the kettle but the the heating elements. So Kool and safe with my special needs son.
We ordered this induction cooktop to replace an older electric burner unit. Since we knew nothing about induction technology and the unknown Thermomate manufacturer was in China and we purchased online, we entered into the purchase with a gambler's mindset. If anything about the project went south, we would just call it a gambling loss and replace it with another electric cooktop purchased locally and chalk the whole thing up to experience. After an unexplained 2 day shipping delay, the new Thermomate unit arrived in perfect condition. As soon as Amazon noticed there was a delay in shipping they sent a note saying that if it did not arrive by a certain date they would replace or refund my money. I unwired the old unit, removed it and dropped the new unit in place. It took just minutes to hook up the wires and turn the unit on. Meanwhile my wife was reading the owners manual, trying to figure out how to operate her new cooktop. With just a little practice she was up and running. Her statement is, ""I've never had such precision in cooking. The temperature control is perfect. I'm thrilled with your product." My statement is, "I'm thrilled she's happy. She does the cooking and she's good at it."Yesterday we received a note from Thermomate that we should contact them if we encountered any problems with the unit. That was reassuring and eliminated the gambling mindset.Sincerely,Don Fink
Received it so fast. So easy to switch the old one out. Easy to understand the way to use each burner. Looks so nice. Works wonderfully Love the induction. Never had an induction before, now I do not know if I would go back to the other.
I ordered mine 4 years ago when they were released. To this day, have never had an issue with it. Amazing how quickly it heats things and the precision beats out gas or electric in my opinion. Install was super easy, cleaning is a snap.I am remodeling our daylight basement, which also has a kitchen with a gas stove. We'll be replace that with another one of these.Highly recommend!
Heats up super quick with good temp control. Easy to operate and easy to understand manual.Glass top may not as durable as more expensive ones but time will tell.
I've had every kind of stove, and thought I was in love with gas. Thought is the key word. This cooktop is actually faster, and able to keep a perfect temperature without fluctuating. Simple, intuitive controls, easy to clean and a joy to use. The one thing you have to be aware of is that it needs pans that work on an induction cooktop (magnetic). It allowed me to get rid of most of our 20+ year collections of pans, buy one GOOD set and save storage space as well. I'll never go back to gas. For those of you who listen to rumors, I have a pacemaker and was concerned, but NO issues at all. The cooktop is a joy!
Works as expected. Just make sure you have induction ready pots. Inexpensive and works well. Just not as good as a higher end name brand I bought for another house. Maybe because it is not quite as powerful. Glad I bought and would consider buying again.
This cooktop is great! First timer cooking using induction. No knobs and that was a little daunting at first. I would have given it 5 stars except that we had a 30 inch cooktop in the space but had to have our granite cut (which cost a few hundred dollars) because it did not fit the space even though the cooktops were both 30 inches. Maybe not the cooktops fault but fitting in a space should be a little more universal.
Dropped right' into my new Quartzite counter top. hookup was a cinch as I already had 240 from the taker out electric cook top. Unbelievable fast cooking, even better than gas..heh..no more yellow residuals from natural gas on the bottom of my pans! Like the 5 cooking stations. Can cook, warm saute', and fry all at the same time! I can have a better review after I have used it for a month or two!Have used it now for a month. All I can say is WOW. Love this cooktop. Loved cooking with gas, but this induction cooktop is many time better than a gas cooktop. Faster too. Only draw back...having to learn new cooking times. Food burns twice as fast. >
Ok I did a little research before buuying this. After going to home depos and home hardwares trying to test out what was going to not scratch and basically be a POS. After looking into a few different things I thought what the hell. its amazon. if it sucks i will return it. Got it shipped out via canada post-i was happy to see that it was in perfect order. my husband and I took the old cook top out and was pleased to see it was literally a matter of unplugging the old one and plugging this one in. It came with all the ends required! We hooked it up and were off to the races. It cooks great. Nice and steady heat. doesnt hit the temp and 'damper' down like many I looked at. This bad boy has my water boiling in 3 mins. or less. the ultra high option is a Great feature. Because I have next to zero patience the answer is yes- i have boiled over things like potatoes and pasta. and fortunately it is just a matter of lifting the pot and giving it a quick wipe. clean up with this thing is a total breeze. so happy my made the decision that I did to just wing it and order from amazon!
